A portion of Interstate 95 in St. Johns County
was temporarily shut down early Friday morning after a car became
lodged underneath a semitrailer. The wreck took place at about 2:40
a.m. in southbound lanes of I-95 south of State Road 207. According to
Florida Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Robert Barker, of Port St. Lucie,
rear-ended a semi-trailer and continued under the truck's trailer

Pickup truck veers off I-95 and slams into tree ...

A 19-year-old St. Augustine man died Sunday when
the pickup truck he was driving veered off Interstate 95 and slammed
into a tree in south Jacksonville, according to the Florida Highway
Patrol. Selix David Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. A
passenger, Efrain Carranza, 24, of St. Augustine, suffered minor
injuries and was taken to Shands Jacksonville. Both men were wearing
seat belts. Gomez has driving south on I-95 at a high rate of speed
when the pickup entered the grassy median and began to spin, according

State Road 9A to Get New Name ...

Once the last major construction work is finished on
State Road 9A, the state plans to drop the "9A" name. State Road 9A
will become the "I-295 East Beltway" and what is now simply Interstate
295 on the Westside will become the "I-295 West Beltway." Some signs
along Interstate 95 near Jacksonville International Airport already
show the new names, but the change won't be official until after the
last main work is done on 9A, said Mike Goldman, a spokesman for the
Florida Department of Transportation....

Lunch-time traffic was blocked on vast swathes of
Interstate 95, Florida 9A and all crossing roads for the president’s
motorcade. Drivers at cross streets and along the highway held up
flags and waved as the motorcade passed. As the motorcade approached
the site of the fund-raiser, neighbors held up signs reading “God
Bless America” and “We love President Bush.”....

Southbound traffic is backed on Interstate 95 heading
out of Jacksonville toward St. Augustine. This is because of a crash
on I-95 near the State Road 210 overpass. Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers are on scene and say the right southbound lanes of I-95 are

I-95 Ramps Open Again on North-side ...

After months of detours several Interstate 95 ramps on
the Northside of Jacksonville have re-opened. Early Wednesday morning
crews reopened the on-ramp from Edgewood Avenue to I-95 north. The
off-ramp from I-95 northbound to Hecksher Drive is open again which
will give easier access to the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens. Also open
are the off-ramp and on-ramps on I-95 northbound at Broward Road. But
the Broward Road exit from southbound I-95 remains closed. Wednesday
morning crews also shifted traffic on the Trout River Bridge....

Crash Injures Three People in St. Augustine ...

Three people are in the hospital after a crash on U.S.
1 just before the road passes Interstate 95 in St. Augustine. Florida
Highway Patrol Troopers say two people were transported to Shands
Jacksonville and one person was taken to Flagler Hospital. Authorities
say at least one of them has serious injuries. There were two vehicles
involved in the crash. No word yet on what caused the accident. The
collision happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning....

Nearly 300 mayors, including those from Jacksonville,
Miami and New York City, met at the downtown library Monday to share
ideas about battling illegal guns. The Mayors Against Illegal Guns
conference was inspired by the fact that 34 Americans are killed every
day with a gun, most of which are possessed illegally. Monday's summit
also discussed a seven-state initiative to build a regional
data-sharing system for illegal gun data. The goal of the system will
be to create a clearinghouse of criminal activity on Interstate 95's
so-called "Iron Pipeline" to help police departments....

Motorcyclist Rear-Ended on i-95 Dies At Hospital ...

A motorcyclist traveling south on Interstate 95 died
after being rear-ended Saturday afternoon. The crash took place near
I-95 and Duval Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol,
61-year-old Francis Tepovich, of Virginia Beach, was ejected from his
bike after being rear-ended by a van. The wreck happened when Tepovich
slowed down while approaching slower traffic in a construction zone,
investigators reported. Tepovich was rushed to Shands-Jacksonville
Medical Center, where he later died....

Part of Interstate 95 was shut down for several hours
Saturday afternoon while Florida Highway Patrol investigated a fatal
accident that left one dead and six injured. FHP says it happen around
2:00 p.m. near Duval Road. They say 61-year-old Francis J. Tepovich of
Virginia Beach, VA, was killed when a Chevy Van driven by Madeleine
Turcotte collided with the rear of his Honda motorcycle. A total of
four vehicles crashed when they were traveling in the southbound lane
of I-95....
